The Elephant Still In the Room: MJ-12

So did the MJ-12 Special Studies Group, mentioned in numerous supposedly leaked “Majestic” documents, really exist or not? If it existed, does it still exist? I find this subject fascinating from a 20th century history perspective.

From Ryan S. Wood’s book “MAJIC Eyes Only”

Ex-US Army Colonel Dr. John B. Alexander said recently (2022) in public, on video, that it existed, but supposedly had “nothing to do with UFO’s”. He was quite adamant that the group definitely existed and even still exists today, so where do we go from here?

This is a complex subject with a lot of history, and I doubt anyone still alive fully understands it (I don’t). There are numerous documents supposedly created over the decades, and they were released by several researchers over the years. It’s all quite confusing.

Legendary physicist and UFO researcher Stanton Friedman was convinced that some Majestic documents mentioning MJ-12 were real. He even wrote a book about the subject. Many “Majestic” documents are here, but the Reagan Library has far better scans of some of these MJ-12 documents which I’ll be posting soon. The latest Majestic document “released” (or “leaked”) was in 2017 (or see this). (Note it’s very difficult to read. Stanton Friedman said before he passed away that this 2017 document looked authentic — I’m searching for the URL.)

There’s an interesting retro documentary on YouTube, where it says that Stanton Friedman with an official archivist present found one of the original Majestic documents in a box at the National Archives (fast forward to 31:00). It was even printed on “onionskin” paper.

I recently found this document in the Reagan Presidential Library. On June 1987, Florida Today/USA Today writes to President Reagan asking if the MJ-12 documents are authentic. Hearings about UFO’s (or “UAP’s” if the retro “UFO” acronym is too strong for you) are mentioned potentially coming after the next elections. They respond with a document from the National Archives which basically boiled down to a bunch of teeth gnashing and hand wringing:

The reply to Mr. Cox:

It’s very likely that the MJ-12 group, if it existed, was renamed a few times over the decades, perhaps to “Project Aquarius” and then something else. The “MJ” could mean “Majestic” or possibly “Majority”.

If there isn’t an MJ-12-like group around today, then that’s actually a serious problem. We obviously need a very smart group to manage the entire UAP problem which, as the US Navy has been finding out recently, is quite serious. It would be better for everyone if this group had a public face.

(As a side note: Legend is, Bob Lazar’s work badge had the letters “MAJ” down the side, and his W2 also had the letters “MAJ”. Lazar’s employer, the “Department of Naval Intelligence” which appears on his W2 statement, was verified to exist thanks to records from the National Archives and US Library of Congress.)
