Senator Harris,
You have hit upon the basis of the problem. “Human” and “civil” rights. While you, and most Democrats and Independents, display a care and concern for the People of America that are going through a crisis and are in need of aid and support, Republicans don’t. You and most Democrats and Independents display a level of humanity that regards all People as humans and entitled to human rights. Republicans, through their actions and words, display a lack of regard for anybody except themselves and their comrades.
Selfishness has become epidemic in America today. Whether we are driving on the highways, in the inner cities, walking the streets, shopping in the Mall, are out for an evening, or any other normal activity during our average day, we are assaulted by numerous instances of individuals more concerned about themselves and their wants than for the people around them. The irate drivers experiencing road rage because someone cut them off. The driver texting while driving. The obnoxious jerks cutting line in the department store or using the Express lane at the grocery store with a cartful of items. Drivers almost running over pedestrians or bikers just so they can get through the yellow light rather than wait 2 minutes.
But, it is also rampant in politics and in our choices during elections. People support the Republicans because they don’t want the money to help the needy to come out of THEIR pockets. How many times have we heard someone say something like, “If they really wanted a job, the lazy ******* can get off their ***** and get one. Jobs are out there.” Or I’m not going to pay for some lazy *** to just lay around the house getting high.” These perceptions persist despite concrete evidence from several states (by mandatory drug testing for welfare recipients, as well as studies) that the VAST majority of welfare recipients do NOT ise drugs. Or the fact that over 40% (if I remember correctly) of homeless in America are children under age 12. Or that most homeless work, or even work two jobs! But, in our selfishness, it’s easier to blame them for taking MY money and hating them for it.
I could go on for quite a bit longer. But, I believe I’ve made my point. THIS issue is what needs to be addressed if we want to have any success in helping the People of America. This issue is whay we have to find a way to correct, if we don’t want to live in an America based upon Eugenics, fascism, and the corporations.
