Senator McCain,
This was a great speech. I agree with virtually everything you said in it. I could even get excited about the path of our government and once again have some hope foe the future of our once great country. …if it was made by someone that actually believed it, meant it, and whose actions supported their belief in it. That, good sir, is not you.
While I respect your honesty, and your courage to stand by what you believe in, your history shows an elitism, arrogance, and lack of care or concern for those Americans in need of assistance. Your history as a senator and as a Republican shows an individual more concerned with the interests and profits of the rich and the corporations than for the People that form this nation.
As long as Republicans are so focused upon and determined to go to any lengths to accomodate the interests of the rich and the corporations and not upon the interests and needs of the People of America, then no compromise or cooperation can be effective. The interests and agendas are too diametrically opposed. In order to accomodate the interests and wants of the rich and the corporations, Republicans HAVE to stomp upon and destroy the interests, needs, and wants of the People. The two philosophies cannot coexist.
History shows us where the path the Republicans want America to walk leads to. Repeatedly, we have seen what happens, what a society becomes when the rich are not reined in. The child sweat shops of the Victorian Industrial Age. Slavery in America, as well as in other parts of the world — some still going on today, encouraged and supported by American corporations and ultra-rich entrepreneurs. Commumism in post-WWII Russia. The drug empires of South America. And yes, the racist extremism of the Eugenics Movement in America which led to the rise of Hitler and Nazism. The list is virtually endless.
You have voted several times in support of policies and legislation that has led us to this point. So, how can you expect us to believe a word of this speech coming from you?
If you want the People of America to believe in you, to support you, SHOW us that you believe your own words. Show us that the unity and effectiveness of the Senate is more important to you than the Republican agenda; that the needs and welfare of the People of America more important than more profits for the mega-corporations. SHOW us that you are a leader that we can want to follow and support. Rather than just another Republican; just another Ryan, McConnell, or Trump.
