I agree with those steps. They aren’t in conflict with my preferences — that we let all the people who live in the Middle East work through all their problems as much on their own as possible, while we protect ourselves as far as possible from the fallout. And under no foreseeable circumstances should we endeavor to bring democracy to those nations or impose our judgements on their societies.

It only directly affects our nations when their violence threatens to escape their borders.

To your items, I would add supporting the refugees in place as humanely as we can, from where they can aid their own countries when the time comes. We don’t need them; their own countries do need them; and bringing a few thousand of them into our country does absolutely nothing except salve the Liberal conscience.
