JIRA can be daunting at first, but what it lacks in friendly UI it has in overall flexibility and structure that fits well for developers. As a PM, I always struggle with what would blend best with a project timeline and roadmap vs. what works best for an engineer’s state of mind (which is what matters most). You can adjust notifications as you see fit, or do what I did — integrate it with Slack/Hipchat and check it a couple times a day.
