The first link ref erenced says “ Not only was Lott’s assertion that more guns leads to more safety formally repudiated by a National Research Council panel” … so I followed that link and read that article. It does NOT “repudiate” Lott’s ‘more guns, less crime’ statement. It reluctantly backs it up. The authors caution you that "… it is not clear a priori that such deterrence occurs”, but also sites statistics that show violent crime does decrease where the right-to-carry was inacted. So, it might be true that the conclusion they state which is “ No link between right-to-carry laws and changes in crime is apparent in the raw data…” they also state that “… the trend models show a reduction in the crime growth rate following the adoption of right-to-carry laws”. It should be clear that it is definitely NOT a fact that ‘more guns equals more crime’! That is the point that gun-control advocates push to pass more gun laws that ultimately have no effect on gun violence.
