The top Asian-American dating stories
You’ve surely heard about these dating Asian women stories — these people are celebrities who have met each other within their social circles, and that’s definitely not the way you’ll go to meet an Asian bride. So we’ll list them here, but without going into too much detail.
- Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan. Priscilla wasn’t born in Asia but her parents were Chinese immigrants from Vietnam. Mark and Priscilla have been together since 2003 (married since 2012), they have 2 children whom they are trying hard to not spoil. Not the easiest task when you’re richer than Kuwait.
- Woody Allen and Soon-Yi Previn. She is the adopted daughter of his ex-partner Mia Farrow, but we are not here to discuss moral and ethical issues. What you need to know is that this couple is a great example of how Asian women view the acceptable age difference in a relationship — he is 85, she is 50, and they are happy with that.
- Nicolas Cage and Riko Shibata. They had a long-distance relationship in 2020 and haven’t seen each other for six months — that’s something they have in common with all those American men who were dating Asian mail order brides that year. We don’t know if they are still together at the moment when you’re reading this — after all, Riko is Nicolas Cage’s 5th wife! But now, at the time of writing, these two are together, they are happy, and they seemingly enjoy each other.
Best online Asian woman dating stories
It’s not only about celebrities, of course. In 2019, more than 15,000 women from Asia got married to American men and entered the US on a K-1 visa — so the number of Asian dating success stories is increasing every year. Unfortunately, the absolute majority of men who have found a wife on mail bride platforms don’t want to share their stories — we don’t know if it’s a social stigma, but the fact remains. However, we’ve been lucky enough and contacted two men who met and married Asian women on mail order bride websites in 2020. We’ve interviewed them and here, we’ll share their stories with their permission.
William and Akina
William, a 37-year-old New Yorker, met Akina online in 2020. She is a 26-year-old sales worker from Nagoya, and it looks like she is still somewhat introvertish and silent — sounds perfectly reasonable when talking about a Japanese expat in NYC. William’s minimalistic apartment in Gramercy Park is elegantly decorated with sakura wall stickers and paper lanterns. The couple is sitting on a couch and it doesn’t feel like an interview at all. More like Sado, the Japanese tea ceremony, with friends.
“Her name means spring flower in Japanese and I guess it’s kinda symbolic that we started chatting in April 2020” he says. “With all that lockdown stuff happening, I finally decided to… not necessarily to fulfill that old dream of mine, but at least to take the first step toward it”.
It’s always William who speaks — Akina is more eloquent with the looks she gives to him and with how she holds William’s hand. We read the atmosphere, as Japanese say, and the atmosphere between these two is as warm and relaxed as possible.
“There was a lot of paperwork but we finally met in July. That October, we got married” he says. Akina smiles and adds that she thought she wasn’t ready for such a step. “William was so great it was impossible to resist”, she says — after this phrase, they smile one more time.
Today, Akina is a green-card holder who has successfully passed all the interviews. They’re planning to have a baby — and it looks like they’ll never regret the day they met on a dating site.
Let’s wish them well!
Darcey and Elize
This couple preferred to remain anonymous to our readers. Half-anonymous, technically — we know their names, occupations, and ages. Darcey is a 28-years-old business owner and Elize is a 21-year-old student from Hong Kong. They met each other online in 2019 and were slowly moving towards meeting up in the spring of 2020, but with no clear intentions — and certainly not for marriage. Their plans were seriously disrupted.
“In February 2020, they canceled everything in Hong Kong” Darcey recalls while looking at his wife with his arms crossed. “This was the time I realized and accepted my feelings — that spring I understood I didn’t want to let go of her”.
Elize says that the timeline of their love story looks different from her perspective. “I accepted my feelings much earlier,” she laughs. “I was ready to wait for him forever until he loves me, you know”. What she thought would take forever took only a few months — one global pandemic.
“I wanted to have some fun but what I found was actually the love of my life”, says Darcey. “I never wish to be parted from her from this day on”, he adds.
That’s probably one of the most touching online Asian dating stories we’ve ever seen — and such success stories of Asian dating are the best explanation why men from the United States search for Asian women.
