G2 Hel will compete in the 3rd division of the Northern LoL Championship
G2 Hel, the female League of Legends team of G2 Esports, has been officially confirmed as a participant in the Northern LoL Championship 3rd division for the 2023 spring split. What can G2 Hel expect from their new competition?

G2 Hel was one of 16 teams competing in the NLC Last Chance Qualifier, fighting for the single NLC 2nd division spot offered. While their Top 8 finish wasn’t enough for that, it secured them a 3rd division spot instead. G2 Hel’s participation in the 3rd division was mentioned by their players Lizia and Colomblbl on Twitter prior to the official announcement.
Some might wonder how G2 Hel is allowed to participate in the NLC 3rd division, as rule 1.2.2 on the NLC.gg rules page states “A team is eligible to play if at least three (3) of five (5) Players playing in a game are Locally Trained Representatives (LTR)”. G2 Hel has 2 LTRs for the NLC: toplaner Lizia and botlaner Caltys. The answer is that the ruleset has changed and simply not updated on NLC.gg yet. I inquired with tournament staff and received the following response from an admin: “The lower divisions of NLC will change to a 2 LTR requirement for Spring split and going forward.”
Format: There are 4 groups of 10 teams. Each group plays single round-robin with Best of 3 matches. The Top 4 teams per group will qualify to playoffs. G2 Hel was placed in Group A; their opponents include:
- Venomcrest Ice Vipers and 42 Gaming Academy, who are sister teams of NLC 2nd division orgs Venomcrest Esports and 42 Gaming respectively
- Exzentriq United, a Danish team G2 Hel already beat in the NLC Last Chance Qualifier
- “THE RUBBER DUCKS”, whose name strikes fear in the hearts of even the bravest players
G2 Hel’s NLC 3rd division debut will be on the 16th of February. The matches start at 19:00 Central European Time every Thursday and Sunday, and are expected to be streamed live on G2’s Twitch channel. Stay tuned to G2’s social media for updates!
