School records
As a private school in California the only records you are required to keep is attendance. I find this slightly alarming. I no longer record keep the way I did as a classroom teacher but I like to keep track of what we are working on.
How many days a week are we reading? Playing board games? Talking about science? Math? Practicing language skills? These incidental brushings with education are how learning happen. “Learning” doesn’t have to happen within the constraints of a “school day”. You can learn all the time.
It makes me happy to write down “Minecraft” as a skill that Shanna is working on. She is working on it. Video game skills may well translate into future job skills.
Of course it counts as educational.
