What can be found inside Mong Kok occupied zone
Since the 9.28 incident in Admiralty, different parts in Hong Kong have been occupied. Mong Kok, the district with great local style is the only occupied zone in Kowloon. After more than one month of occupation, the sense of community has been built by the citizens inside Mong Kok Zones.

The area of occupied zone in Mong Kok has changed from the very beginning. At first, the Nathan Road from Prince Edward West to Waterloo Road, and part of Argyle Street was occupied. Later, the police had an attempt to clear the area, but the crowd occupied Nathan Road from Argyle Street to Dundas Street at the night same day. The occupied area remains unchanged since that day.

Occupation becomes a long-term movement as the government and the people do not compromise to make a deal which can be agreed by both sides. As a result, more and more facilities are added into the occupied area to satisfy people’s needs, and they can reflect the life of occupation.

To live, there are 339 tents inside the area. Some of them are private, others are marked public, strangers can applicate from the staffs and use the public tents. Citizens have grouped numbers of tents and named the area as ‘estate’.

To satisfy other basic needs of life, different volunteers have established 7 stations to suppliy material like marks to defense, water and biscuit. Some of the stations offer services like cell phone charging. There is one first-aid station to offer simple health service.

Besides the basic needs, more types of facilities are not for basic needs anymore. There are religious area, including a temple of Guan Yu, the Chinese God and a Christian Church for people to worship for the safe. Guan Yu temple is the only Chinese temple inside all occupation zones in Hong Kong, not just in Kowloon. Besides religion, there are library and self-study zone for the citizens to entertain and study.

From the facilities, we can know what the citizens do inside the area. They are not to live only, but having life also. Besides worship and study, people discuss about current affairs. They make handicrafts and artworks to make the area more fun.
For example, the Central Government has selected a photo of Chairman Xi JinPing carrying an umbrella as the best news photo. People thus use it as one of the symbol of the occupation. In Mong Kok area, there are 31 artworks of Xi JinPing carrying an umbrella. This have showed their creativity and humor.
