It might be easier to throw your arms up in the air and huff, “Kids these days,” but as an educator, you cannot give up on your students like that. Children, tweens and teens with behavioral issues need help, not hindrance. In some cases, the underlying problem might be an external factor, such as a volatile home life. The issue may also arise from the educational institution itself, whether through peer bullying or ineffective teaching staff. Positive behavior intervention support saves kids who are about to drop out or be expelled. Here are the three tiers that make it so effective.

1. Universal Training

Universal training means the positive behavioral intervention applies to both students and teachers. In other words, teachers must also learn how to foster positive learning environments and deal, effectively, with problem students. This training lays the groundwork for a healthy school climate, and there is continuing education to keep kids and their instructors on track throughout the school year.

2. Targeted Intervention

Targeted intervention is employed to prevent lesser communal learning issues from becoming serious ones. For example, perhaps your students live in poverty and resent those in the better neighborhoods who, in their eyes, have it all. Intervening and working with kids to show them they have equal chances if they apply themselves helps foster that positive learning environment in which they will succeed.

3. Personalized Support

Not every student will respond to the universal and targeted positive behavior intervention support, however. The student may suffer from attitude issues, which, again, might stem from the home environment. He or she may also suffer from a learning disability or other setback, such as a language barrier. In this case, to prevent expulsion, personalized support must be employed for this student.

You might not have the staff to tutor individual students who suffer from severe behavioral problems, but you can purchase software that can. This software helps educators isolate the student’s issue, whether attitude or aptitude, and then engages the student in activities designed to help adjust his or her mindset. The software goes beyond educational. It also teaches positive coping mechanisms.

Rather than throw your arms up in the air and give up on your students, look into positive behavior intervention support for your educational institution. This software utilizes numerous apps designed to foster a positive attitude and learning environment for the toughest cases. When students learn in a manner that is conducive to their needs, they realize they can have a bright future ahead of them.
