Flipkart vs Amazon
The Indian battle lines are drawn — Flipkart leads by almost a 4X multiple or so it seems. But Amazon has crept to no.13 position while Flipkart is at no.9 on most popular sites in India.
I am not declaring the winner, or suggesting why one would win over the other, I am just merely as a consumer saying why I favor Amazon.
- Drones : Amazon promises to bring drones to logistics and retail delivery. It just isn’t cool, it liberates millions of people whose job is to look at addresses and deliver to you. The kind of job I like to call “Hand and Feet jobs” as it uses primarily one’s being but only the lowest functions of their brains. I like the idea that these millions will then find themselves in jobs that leverages their brains and imagination and have steep learning curves. I am all for enhancing human potential. Even though in the beginning these people’s path may be rough, and transistion not smooth — great changes are not easy and thats OK.
- Kindle : They didn’t just deliver books, they work hard to make it easier to order, store, read, carry and way more cost-effective. They innovate. Amazon brought technology into the service and made it insanely better.
- Scan and Compare: Amazon app allows you to scan, compare and make decisions. Its not just shopping, its smart. I like smart.
- Technology disrupts retail: Its not just internet disrupting retail: There is a certain ease of ordering from comforts of where you are in a few clicks. Given. Thats the bottom of “Maslow’s hierarchy of needs from the internet” ( if such a thing existed). Amazon goes right to self-actualization by pushing the boundaries of possibilities. They are not just e-tailers but innovators. A world of difference. It just launched a new phone, for those unaware this one has the making of a phone from the IoT era. Though I foresee this one failing, I like that they try. It matters to me that they try to give me the future.
Apart from being Indian ( so I support Indian ) and they have provided acceptable service in the past — I haven’t heard major arguments in favor of the incumbent. Maybe cheaper prices of gadgets through WS Retail.
On the other hand, I see Amazon enhancing human potential, giving us superior technology, making us smarter shoppers and trying to deliver the future to us.
So, I am just curious to see what the world’s largest democracy choses this time.
