What if Steve Jobs hadn’t rejoined Apple?
There are a lot of moments in our life where we wonder about the chances we could have taken or how we could’ve done things differently to change what is happening now. Think about what if people like Steve Jobs hadn’t taken those chances.
Apple’s situation would’ve been completely different. Perhaps, someone else would’ve brought the revolution but Steve Jobs’ contribution in the current success of Apple is indeed commendable.
Jobs was born in San Francisco, California, to parents who put him up for adoption at birth. He was raised in the San Francisco Bay Area during the 1960s. He attended Reed College in 1972 before dropping out that same year, and traveled through India in 1974 seeking enlightenment and studying Zen Buddhism.

Jobs and Wozniak co-founded Apple in 1976 to sell Wozniak’s Apple I personal computer. Together the duo gained immense fame and wealth a year later for the Apple II, one of the first highly successful mass-produced personal computers.
When Apple first went public in 1980, it was worth about $100 million under the leadership of Jobs, who left Apple in 1985. When he rejoined in 1997, he faced the task of restructuring an organization that was on the brink of bankruptcy. These chain of events led to the development of an astounding personality like Steve Jobs’.
His absence in the company led to tragic events which the company hadn’t wished for. The Company faced losses under the CEO Gil Amelio and was in dire need of product leadership while Steve Jobs was out making a fortune through investing in Pixar Studios. He later founded a computer and software company named Next. It turned out to be a great success while Apple was still lagging behind in the industry. A much needed comeback was required by Apple to shoot back up in the industry.
Steve Jobs saved the day at the correct time by proposing to sell his company Next to Apple. The events that followed the merger built the foundation for the software that Apple provides.
Jobs did some remarkable work which people would not have witnessed in his absence. His first order of business: to drop costly projects and streamline the company’s focus. And he did just that with the release of the 1998 iMac. The product sold nearly 800,000 units in the first few months, signaling a major turning point for the company.
Jobs saw an opportunity to target music fans who wanted affordable music but didn’t want to drive to a store to buy expensive CDs. In 2003, the iTunes Music Store was launched and soon became the top music retailer.
Likewise, Jobs founded the App Store in 2008, which brought in hundreds of developers who were eager to make easy money. “Nothing like the App Store existed before, and it has fundamentally changed the world.

The difference that Steve Jobs brought was of great significance. The Apple ecosystem that exists because of Jobs’ ideas would not have existed, rather the expectations from the company would’ve changed. Maybe, Jobs’ arrival eradicated the worst case scenario of the company being shut.
Apple has become the first USA based company to reach a trillion dollars. If we go back to the time when Apple was facing severe losses, it would’ve been unimaginable that Apple could reach a trillion dollar worth if it had continued with the same ideology.
The Mac OS system would not have existed and Apple devices would’ve worked under a different software or perhaps it would’ve adopted the android system similar to the competitors in the market. Therefore, its aspect of uniqueness would not have existed.
Jobs was running his own company which he founded after leaving Apple. He had the capability to successfully establish his company’s name among the top contenders in the industry. Maybe, Next would’ve taken the place that Apple holds in the economy today. Apple’s existence is a consequence of Jobs decisions. If Steve Jobs hadn’t rejoined Apple, then not only would the market have been deprived of the tremendous amount of innovation that he brought, even the world itself would’ve missed out on this economic and technological miracle that Apple is today.
