Living many lives in one life…..

“We read to know we’re not alone.”
 ― William Nicholson, Shadowlands

Everyone has different reasons on why they read or why they started reading in first place. Some people read to gain knowledge where as some read for pleasure. Some people(read students) to get good grades. Each one has their own motive of reading and gets a fair amount of outcome of what they read in terms of knowledge ,experience or pleasure. It is difficult to explain how reading can affect your life ,but some affect can be assured. Here, I would like to make clear that “reading” activity should not be limited to only course books or novels, it could include articles, blogs and websites like Quora or Medium.

“A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies, said Jojen. The man who never reads lives only one.”
― George R.R. Martin, A Dance with Dragons

As I said earlier ,that everyone has their own reason for reading ,I have my own reason for reading. I realised the importance of reading late in my life and after that I am on my journey to correct that mistake. Over the past few months, I have read almost 20 books to explore the world, to learn a thing or two about the world and people ,to develop my self but most importantly I read to live different lives.

I started out reading books by one of the Indian author, he mainly wrote about college life, love and friendship. While reading these books I lived the life of a boy who got in the midst of friend and love, a boy who faced problem due to inter cast issue in his society ,a boy who got impacted by riots. Moving on ,I read two extremely popular series among the teenagers, Percy Jackson and Divergent .It were recommended by a friend of mine who has a thing about fantasy novels. After completing series I understood why she has that thing .At the end of the series I was proud of myself ,not because I read the series but because I won the war and defeated the evil Kronos (in Percy Jackson) or ended an evil practice of society and government ( in Divergent series).Ya, that’s what happens when you try to live the life of the character in the story. But I was not satisfied living the life of fighter or lover. Hence, I started reading classics of Agatha Christie. Life of a detective is the most intresting one. It’s exciting to always have your “little grey cells” at work. Recently , I read “The Kite Runner” by Khaled Hosseini and I felt devastated after reading the scenario in Afghanistan and Pakistan, but through Hassan I learned loyalty whereas Amir taught how there is “a chance to be good ,again.”

I wrote the above para not to show what you can learn from reading novels or blogs ,but to show how one can live and experience different souls in different situations, emotions and environment just by reading out new genres of books. In short I read 3–4 different genres and each giving a new experience and dimensions to me. Each soul having something exciting to share , to teach, to explore and to experience. Currently, I am reading the biography of Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacon and trying to understand how a man can be so creative ,innovative ,experimental and still have his shortcomings.

Its fun to live different lives in one life that your parents have given you. Try it yourselves ,I am sure you will love it.
