How big is the internet, really?

Being really bored at work = an opportunity to see how big the internet actually is. →

Google the word “bored” and within half a second you’ll be returned with 176 million related links.

We’re constantly bombarded with how the grandiose size of the world-wide-web. However, how many of your online habits make use of its largeness?

We find ourselves circulating only a few key websites. For me, it’s all listed in my bookmarks. I don’t have to venture far to get what I desire. In fact, I get bored of being bored on the internet. How can that be possible?

Its not like there’s a lack of content?

I find myself confined to only a few links out of normality and productivity. Once this list is created, adding to it and even editing it becomes a greater task than my attention span is willing to accommodate.

This is the issue and the opportunity

Evidently, our attention spans have a severe barrier to entry. The ‘lucky’ sites have almost all of our attention and the others may never see the light of day. If you’re able to break a market, the opportunities are unparalleled.

The internet really isn’t that big for the majority of consumers. We’re not scouring the wilderness of the web for our information, we get it from the places we trust. You’ll know when you’ve succeeded, it’s when you’re part of my bookmark bar.
