Jagga Jasoos, is an important film for Ranbir Kapoor. The last time he worked with Anurag Basu he delivered BArfi which was both a critical and commercial success. Jagga Jasoos has had its share of difficulties. Its release date got pushed back and then it finally made its way to theatres. The movie is 182-minutes long and is an action-comedy-adventure Disney co-production hurtles us from Purulia and Ukhrul in India, to Moombaka and Shundi in Africa, and we begin to feel increasingly overwhelmed as we try to work out exactly how we got from place to random place. Basu’s exceedingly ambitious storytelling vision is the kind that most creatives in Bollywood might never even dare (let alone carry out), but it’s a double-edged sword responsible for the film’s most memorable moments, but also for often losing grasp of the narrative — and the audience — along the way.

The movie shines with the music that has been implemented and the unravelling of the many mysteries that Jagga stumbles upon are the most brilliant pieces of the movie. The movie has been very cleverly written by every set piece seems to add to the narrative. The many musical numbers that we witness on the screen seem effortless and are based on that are part of the screenplay. Which is to say, nothing looks super imposed. Amitabh Bhattacharya seems to be on fire with the lyrics and rhyming dialogue they are both comical and musical at the same time.

Art Director Parijat Poddar and DOP S. Ravi Varman takes us through the surreal world in a much comfortable manner. It is quite evident throughout the movie the the unique vision that Anurag Basu held to throughout the movie.

Songs like Ullu Ka Paththa and Galti Se Mistake add the much needed melody to an already good musical. The sequences where Jagga stumbles upon an illegal arms racket and the constant chase between Jagga and the evil intelligence officer played by Saurabh Shukla is much entertaining and is bound to keep you hooked.

All in all Jagga Jasoos is the vessel that Ranbir Kapoor was waiting for and the movie is a breath of fresh air where we keep getting same stories in different packaging. So, if you are in the mood to see some really good cinema with fine execution and great acting, then heading to Jagga Jasoos is the right thing to do.
