Here’s where my head is at for the next stage of maturity for UX professionals.

Just like design has earned a seat at the table in the early stages of product development, it will now need to move in to being involved in the early stages of business decisions. I’m already seeing it in my day to day work with business VP’s are involved in design reviews. The kind of directional feedback that’s received not only reduces time to execution but more critically helps business owners to unlock their own potential early.

Understanding and embedding design in business processes and units is going to be key going forward. Human centered and technologically agnostic business decisions will make for better experiences and bottomlines.

I’ll elaborate on each of these in further posts along with shift in skills, mindset and knowledge that’ll be required. But for now, here’s a list I created for my own reference to capture what it means for design to start focussing on what to build rather than how to build it.
