This is post 1 of 3 in our series “Rising Barn Electrical Components,” where our electrical component is explained for installation.

Of all the home improvement tasks you can attempt, electrical DIY is one of the most complex-looking. Indeed, installing electric circuits has many small steps involved that can add up to potentially dangerous stuff. Fortunately, we are proud to say that we simplified and reduced the amount of steps for the Rising Barn DIYer.

In this series of blog posts, we will describe how to install as well as provide you with troubleshooting tips of the electrical component of your building kit. Before we begin, however, we must emphasize that ELECTRICITY CAN BE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. Always make sure your breaker is switched off when working with electrical wiring, and if you are unsure about ANYTHING at all, make sure to reach out to us or consult a professional electrician. We want to keep you safe, and understanding the process in this series of posts is the key to doing that.

Your Electrical Component.
Each Rising Barn unit comes with conduits pre-drilled into the walls. No need for complex series of pipes and outlet boxes — they’re already installed. That means that all you have to do on build day is 1) connect the wires to the breaker box, 2) string them through the pre-routed holes, and 3) connect them to the outlet. That’s it!

If you want to get fancy, we can also supply what are known as “half-hot” or “switched” outlets. These are special types of outlets that, with a bit of elaborate wiring, have one outlet that is always on while the other one is controlled by a lightswitch. These are usually used with plug-in lamps, and can add flexibility to your lighting plan by removing the need to have wall-mounted lights. Instead, you can just plug in your floor lamps and control them with a switch! Most of our customers opt for these since doing so provides ease and flexibility in your lighting design.
