Aleo, a cutting-edge platform that harnesses the power of zero — knowledge proofs technology, stands as an avant-garde beacon, championing confidentiality and scalability within the realm of decentralized application creation. Its resolute mission? To pave the way for a pioneering era in Web 3.0, endowing developers and users with the indispensable tools required to construct and utilize blockchain-based applications that are both secure and transparent.

Grants

Aleo launched a grant program in April 2021 to support developers who want to contribute to the growth and improvement of the platform. The grant program provides for four categories of projects:

  • Infrastructure: Projects that improve the performance, security, availability, or interoperability of the Aleo platform.
  • Tools: Projects that facilitate the development, testing, debugging or analysis of applications on Aleo.
  • Applications: Projects that create new or improve existing applications on Aleo, such as games, social networks, defi, NFT, etc.
  • Education: Projects that spread knowledge about Aleo technology or train developers and users.

The grant program is open to all interested individuals or teams who can apply through a special form on the Aleo website.
Applications are reviewed by a committee of representatives of Aleo and the community. The Committee evaluates projects according to several criteria, such as:

  • Compliance with Aleo’s goals and vision
  • Potential to create value for the ecosystem
  • Quality and detail of the offer
  • Qualifications and motivation of applicants
  • Realistic deadlines and budget

The amount of the grant depends on the complexity and significance of the project, as well as on the required resources. Grants can be issued in the form of fiat currency or ALEO tokens. Grants are paid in stages to achieve certain goals or milestones.
Since the launch of the grant program, Aleo has already supported more than 20 projects that range from libraries and frameworks to games and educational platforms. Some examples of projects that have received grants from Aleo are:

  • Snarky JS: A framework for creating web applications using zero disclosure in JavaScript.
  • Leo Studio: an integrated development environment for creating and running applications on Aleo.
  • ZEXE: A protocol for performing calculations on encrypted data using zero disclosure.
  • LeoDB: A database for storing and processing encrypted data on Aleo.
Dark Forest: a game in the genre of MMO strategy using zero disclosure and NFT.

Hackathons

Aleo also hosts hackathons to encourage creativity and innovation in the ecosystem. Hackathons are events in which participants must come up with and implement new ideas or solutions based on Aleo in a limited time (usually from a few days to several weeks). Hackathons can be thematic or general, and can also be held in partnership with other organizations or platforms.

Participation in hackathons is open to everyone who wants to, who can register through a special form on the website of Aleo or partners. Participants can work individually or in teams of up to five people. Participants must submit their projects in the form of a video demonstration and source code. Projects are evaluated by a jury of representatives of Aleo, partners and the community. The jury evaluates projects according to several criteria, such as:

  • The originality of the idea
  • Technical complexity and quality of implementation
  • Practical usefulness and potential for scaling
  • Using the capabilities and features of Aleo

Winners and prize-winners of hackathons receive cash prizes in the form of fiat currency or ALEO tokens, as well as other awards, such as mentoring, access to resources or the opportunity to continue working on their projects.
Since the launch of the platform, Leo has already held two hackathons: Aleo Hackathon I in April-May 2021 and Aleo Hackathon II in June-July 2021. More than 500 developers from different countries took part in these hackathons, who created more than 50 projects on various topics, such as defi, NFT, social networks, education, etc. Some examples of projects that won hackathons are:

  • Zerostagram: A social network for sharing photos using zero disclosure and NFT.
  • AlsaMixer: a service for ensuring the confidentiality of transactions on the Aldo platform. Alto Mixer uses zero disclosure technology to hide the source, recipient and amount of the transaction from outside observers.
  • Aleo Land: A platform for decentralized lending and borrowing using zero disclosure.
  • Aleo Academy: an educational platform for learning Aleo technology and developing applications on it.

Conclusion

Emerging victorious from these Hackathons and claiming the spoils of success, winners and distinguished participants bask in the glory of not just cash prizes in fiat currency or ALEO tokens, but also an array of auxiliary perks, including mentorship, unbridled access to resources, and the invaluable opportunity to perpetuate their journey within Aleo’s welcoming embrace.

Aleo’s resolute commitment to the fostering of innovation stands as a testament to its unwavering dedication to the art of creation within the decentralized landscape. Its persistent call to all visionaries and innovators, beckoning them to join its ranks and contribute to the enriching saga of Web 3.0, echoes throughout the corridors of the digital age, ushering in a new era of collective ingenuity and collaborative progress.
