If you follow me on Instagram, you know I love seasonal decorating and within each season are usually one or two events… so naturally I need to decorate for those too! This month is an easy one with Easter around the corner and since Easter is a special time to entertain friends and family, I’m rounding up some of my favourite Easter themed decor and tablescape ideas. Simple DIY’s pulled together with things you already have in your home, as well as easy to find items that will add that sweet Easter vibe to your gatherings.

As I did with my “easy on the eyes” Valentine’s Day decor blog post, I’ll start with one idea and update this post with new inspiration leading up to Easter. Come back and check them all out – I’ll make sure to have something for everyone and every budget!

1) Kicking off our first Easter decor/tablescape inspiration with EGG VASES. These are gorgeous scattered around a table so make as many as you can – the more the merrier! The best part is they’re not just for tablescapes, you can use them as decor throughout your home to dress up a powder room, on an entrance table to greet guests, or on your bedside table to greet you. They’re SO versatile and when it’s time to host Easter dinner, your tablescape is set! Give it up for double duty decor!

What you’ll need: Raw extra large eggs (brown or white). Egg cups (you can mix and match different patterns and colours). Water. Flowers. Dishwashing soap (optional).

How to: With the tip of a sharp knife, gently tap the top/tip of a raw egg until you make a small hole. Using your fingers, gently peel away a small round opening – just big enough to add your favourite flower or two. Turn the raw egg upside down and gently shake the yolk and the egg whites out of the egg shell and into a bowl (you can promptly use the yolks/egg whites for scrambled eggs, French toast, or baking). Rinse the inside of the egg shell until it’s clean with water. I use a drop of dishwashing soap, warm water, and my finger to clean out the inside (gently, so as not to crack the egg shell). Rinse well and voila… your Easter egg vases are ready! Fill the egg shells with cold water, place them in an egg cup, and add a trimmed flower or two. You can use tulips, baby’s breath (these last a long time), or your favourite spring bloom. I used Rae Dunn egg holders that spell E-A-S-T-E-R, but you can mix and match a variety of egg cups in a variety of colours to pull a beautiful Easter look together. If you’d like to take this a step further, you can dye the eggs a pretty pastel colour.

2) Next up is an easy tablescape idea using fluffy bunny ear headbands from the dollar store. How cute are these?! I couldn’t find plain white headbands, but I noticed they’re almost always white on back side so just turn those colourful bunny headbands around for a more neutral look.

What you’ll need: Bunny ear headbands (I found mine at the dollar store). Buy one for each place setting.

How to: I mentioned above that I could only find brightly coloured bunny ears, but noticed they were plain white on the back so I turned them over for a more neutral look. If your headbands are too thick to sit flat under the plate, bend them around the outside edge of the plate or cut a couple of inches off each side of the bands to fit just under the rim of the plates. You can also cut the bunny ears off and place them side by side under the rim of the plate. Can this be any easier?

3) Pom-pom bunny bums garland. Cuteness overload! I used a colourful pre-made pastel garland from Michaels and added white fluffy tails and felt ears. You can also make your own pom-pom garland fairly easily – craft stores sell pom-pom makers to help you along (or you can even google your own DIY pom-pom maker). I’ll be making a second garland with pure white fluffy bunnies now that I know how cute these turned out!

What you’ll need: A store bought pom-pom garland or you can make your own pom-poms at home and string them for a DIY garland. Smaller white pom-poms or cotton balls for the bunny tails (I used pom-poms). A white felt or foam sheet for the ears (I used felt). Hot glue gun with glue. Pen/felt marker. Scissors. A way to hang your garland (I.e. tape/hooks, etc.)

How to: Hang your garland up first so you know where the tails and ears need to be placed. Glue your bunny bum pom-poms/cotton balls near the bottom of each pom-pom on the garland. Draw bunny ears on a felt/foam sheet, two for each pom-pom on the garland. The ears don’t need to be drawn perfectly uniform, just make them as close to the same size as possible. Cut out the bunny ears. With your fingers, separate the strings of one of the pom-poms on the garland with your fingers and glue one ear in place (near the top). Cover the bottom of the ear with the separated string so that the glue is not showing. Repeat for each of the ears. And that’s it! You have the sweetest bunny bums garland that you can reuse year after year!

4) Easter bunny ears napkin rings exist and it’s all I need to know. Easter themed napkin rings and egg table scatters can make for a simple Easter table. Add some flowers, and you’ve outdone yourself!! They must be a thing this year since I’m seeing several styles and colours of both in stores, but my TAKE AWAY is that you can use colourful candy/chocolate eggs as table scatter to replicate this popular store bought look. The best part – your guests can EAT all the eggs after dinner… in an effort to clean up!

5) For the person that labels everything… personalized EGG TAGS for the dinner table. Aka: name tags. Just one more reason to justify that label maker purchase. As if we need another reason! And who doesn’t love to see their name/initials on things? It’s so inviting when the hosts think of these personalized little touches. I added some snipped heather from outside our house, but you can pick some of the beautiful (and free) wild flowers and cherry blossoms that are blooming around the neighbourhood. Tablescapes don’t have to cost a lot of money to be beautiful.

6) Bunny bum takeaway bags: We’re filling ours with treats for our guests to take with them after Easter dinner, but these adorable takeaway bags can be used for anything that can be put in a paper bag!

What you’ll need: Paper lunch bags, pom poms (you can also use big cotton balls), thin ribbon/string (optional), scissors, and glue (I used a hot glue gun).

How to: Cut a triangle out of the tops of the paper bags to shape the ears. Glue the pom poms on to the bottom of the most attractive side of the bag. You can leave them open or tie them under the bottom of the ears with string/ribbon.

7) Floppy Bunny Air Napkins: Tried my hand at these bunny ear folded napkins and they’re easier than I thought! No need for pricey napkin rings when a little bit of string and some folding will do!! I used a soft linen napkin, but you can use stiffer napkins for a more polished look.

What you’ll need: Fabric napkins, string, and eggs (I got a dozen plastic paintable matte white eggs at the dollar store for you guessed it… $1).

How to: 1) Fold the napkin into a triangle. 2) Roll up from the bottom – all the way to the tip of the triangle. 3) Flip the ends to cross one another. 4) Place an egg in the bottom of the napkin and tie just above the top of the egg – nice and snug. 5) Fan out the ears. I used a super soft and slouchy linen napkin for this tutorial so I fanned the ears out nice and wide to give it a floppy look. If you use a firmer napkin, you may want to fan the ears out a little less for a more polished look.

Well, if you’re wondering what our Easter table ended up looking like this year, we went with a family-friendly Easter themed tablescape since our little guy’s bestie and fam joined us… and three grandparents. A family-friendly tablescape should be fun and beautiful, which if I had a mantra for our home decor, it would be that! Incorporating a little whimsy for the kids, while being cheerful and easy on the eyes for the adults!!

We opted for “paper that feels like fabric” placemats that make spills welcome and clean up a breeze. 🙌 Six egg cups that spell E-A-S-T-E-R with egg shells filled with spring blooms replace the every day vase and spans the length of the table.🥚🌼 The kid’s plates were kinda special since they were wrapped with a bunny ear headband. 🐰 Egg scatter, some tea light candles, and our spring table was complete.

Hope your Easter was beautiful and that you’ve enjoyed these DIYs! It was so fun putting them together. Xo
