There are a few ways to get your expressive juices flowing, and I’m calling them ‘expressive’ rather than ‘creative’, because when you express the primary motive is to tell a story — a story of yourself.

When you’re creative you could be telling anyone’s story, or even retelling an old story in a new way, like so many texts that have been adapted into movies.

Expression, though, is about tapping into the multiple stories within you.

This requires you to be brave enough to open up, to lay bare your soul, to become vulnerable to the world… It demands that you rid yourself of modesty and shame, and be open to criticism and judgment…

But, to stay determined through it all, and tell your story, in the way you know best, through your chosen medium.

This requires a lot of courage and hardwork. You need to be brave enough to ‘march to the beat of your own drummer’… Very often, you have to go against the grain, and be bold enough to say and do things only you believe in.

You also have to work tirelessly on one idea, and one project — that is ‘you’.

Expression is an endless process of working toward becoming the person you truly are, and discovering your true potential…
