The Indian Superhero

‘Chotu chai laana‘, ‘Chotu bhaiya ki shirt iron kar do’ ‘Chotu… Chotu … Chotu… ‘

Indians very well relate to this person, it is quintessential Indian name for anyone who does house hold work (no, we DO NOT call our moms Chotu).

He is synonymous with an Indian household and more so in the northern region of the country, he is usually a young boy in his early teens, adept to do anything. One can find him running around from 7 in the morning till 8 in the evening, and the day, almost everyday, ends with taking blessings of the eldest male member of the family (also read as ‘Chotu paer dabana’)

I am early riser and Chotu has to be, so one morning as I conveniently sat on the table pretending to read the newspaper while checking Instagram on my phone, I called out to Chotu for a cup of tea. While the human Chotu was busy with other work, I saw my aunt call for an Uber Pool, little confused, I asked her why was she going to give the stuff herself, Chotu would be free in sometime. She smirked, called the driver, put the stuff in the car and directed him to the destination. I was still confused trying to understand what was happening, while she called her friend and informed ‘ I have sent your stuff through an Uber Swift Dzire, car no ####‘
