The Coming Storm: Parallels

Stop me if you’ve heard this one. An old guy, who is not a part of the party, not historically allied with it in any fashion and who generally refuses to join it, throws in for the endorsement of that party. He causes immediate havoc with the old guard, the “establishment” candidates, yet through a message of intense and shouty populism and hardcore sloganeering, manages to vanquish most or all of the field. He alienates vast swatches of the party’s base, ignoring entire segments of the population and displays a generally racist and/or sexist attitude when they are brought up. His success causes an immediate dilution and disintegration of the party’s history and current standing.

Think you know who I’m talking about? If you were choosing a single person, you were wrong, though it is the same role, naturally, that of agitator, that of firebrand, that of outsider “shaking things up”
and “throwing things for a loop”. On the Democratic side, we had and still have Bernard Sanders and on the right, Donald Trump, both bought and paid for as assets for Team Russia. Neither has relinquished any of that role. Sanders, for instance, disregarded entirely blacks and other POC and to a large extent, women, conceding instantly all of them to Hillary Clinton. It was as if they did not exist, as far as his campaign went, so it was never going to be a winning one in 2016 any more than a wrecking ball is capable of constructing a house. He has yet to demonstrate any caring for this nor tendered any sort of explanation, but then again, his intent was not really to win, but to damage Hillary as much as possible and be backup to DT.

Both of these candidates also are ostensibly eyeing a 2020 run, but Sanders has made no overtures at all to capture those other missing votes, but instead seems steadfastly, doggedly intent on ruining the Democratic party by kicking at its pillars and various of its leadership and elected officials and occasionally issuing ominous warnings/threats. That DT has vocally and enthusiastically been supportive of Sanders should not be any kind of a surprise or even an oddity, at this point, but sends the direct message both that they feel safe enough to do such a thing obviously and overtly and that they are two sides of the same coin.

On the GOP side, it’s probably worse. DT started with a strong overriding Slavic fetish and his transgressions are both well-known and added to daily. His overt racism is pulling the sheets off of the subtext and undercurrent always present in the GOP, but never exposed to an extent this craven in recent memory, which is creating a stain that will never wash away. Instead of salvaging it or even attempting to mitigate damage, the GOP continues to reinforce the negatives by trying to actively damage citizens under the guise of nonsense, first with the attempt, again, to kill ACA and then to allow nearly all of the various governmental agencies, through attrition, to crumble into nothingness. The GOP is seriously dead in the water in a small matter of time, unless they can skew things over enough to lock out a power changeover, which will delay things slightly. They cannot keep the country at bay indefinitely and the public increasingly won’t accept it. So, again, several roads keep leading back to civil war, which would be a most unhappy development and the end of the USA.

The parallels continue…FEC filings are interesting. DT insists on accepting precious few donations unless they’ve been filtered. Why? So he can hide Russian funding. He likely did not before and does not now have the funds for any kind of major political campaign, but his skill is not really in being legit rich anyway. It is in manipulating celebrity, a facet of which he has been largely proficient for much of his entire life. Even for all of that, he would be flat-assed busted were it not for Mark Burnett putting DT back into circulation in a role that required nothing real at all and where being a complete sham was of massive advantage, that of the so-called “reality” tv. In a source of neverending amusement, if currently now wry, it reminds me of when DT said that if he did run, it would be as GOP because their voters were “pretty dumb” and commentary from inside his campaign referred to the GOP repeatedly as “stupid”. Those thoughts have been proved correct, clearly and at best, the party was ripe for the picking.

That the GOP accepted this interloper at all, let alone backed him and covered for him means that they are creating several generations of backlash and when it hits, it will be for them as the men wearing the red sash of the Cowboys in the movie Tombstone. The money trail for Sanders is better documented, but no less convoluted. Were this any other year and any other administration, instead of the current regime, I strongly suspect there would be an investigation ongoing. For now, this is generally passed over in favor of bigger fish to fry, but I strongly suspect the story there is not over. Both Bernard Sanders and Jane Sanders are currently under investigation for fraud.

Right now, in case any idiots in Twitterland are confused by my various postings (and I have enough evidence to indicate that at least some are), I find Bernard Sanders toxic, self-serving, underhanded, wretched and a plague to the Democratic party, in near equal measure to how I find DT, a prime example of the worst humanity has to offer. That Perez still tries to manipulate Sanders is both stupid and a gigantic error in tactics. Both Sanders and DT should be booted to form their own parties, if they want, as neither can be guided or controlled, except by their Russian masters. This is, as we observe daily, not good at all for America. Or the world. Both of them are indisputably agents of chaos, set to wreak as much havoc and sow as much discord as possible before they are finally booted.

Sanders was always the backup, in case the GOP came to their senses and booted DT rather than run him as their candidate and the strategy of installing an asset in each party was a successful one…at least so far. All of the Russian want list, except repealing the Magnitsky Act and easing direct Russian sanctions, has largely been granted. If our system allows that kind of gross manipulation, sooner or later, someone is going to try to manipulate it and someone tried and someone did. Watching the twists and frugues as the country tries to extricate itself once every one of its failsafes failed bears out some remarkable flaws. This system of government is going through a trial by fire right now, a test that could not have come at a worse time and it is failing.

Sanders being the backup means his job was easier. That the Russians found a very willing lunatic in DT meant they could just wind him up and let him go, then stand back and watch. When you watch him interact with Putin, it is with near slavish devotion, strongly suggestive his Slavic fetish does not end at women. For Sanders, all he has to do is inject himself in the news every so often so that he retains a degree of public consciousness. If DT is not removed, I doubt you will see Sanders make a serious run again, but if DT is somehow ejected and Sanders is still alive, plan now to see ol’ Bernard try to inject himself into the process in a major way. Right now, he is laying low and doing what he can to disrupt the Democrats while trying not to overly draw too much attention to himself, walking a fine tightrope. Look for an event-dependent change to his behavior, but the notion that he would have won will persist and continue to be promoted by those with an agenda to continue it until the Democratic party forcibly exorcises it. As has been noted, Sanders is not an actual Democrat and so it follows, neither are his supporters. In point of fact, enough of them voted against the actual Democratic candidate to heavily influence those contests in favor of the other Russian asset, DT.

The more disturbing parallel is with DT and Hitler, a historical antecedent, a subject I spent a lot of time with in earlier pieces here. This is where I think Sanders and DT diverge, for Sanders, for all his many faults, does not appear to also be batshit insane. DT is and it is the same kind of mental discordance that prompted Hitler to attempt to turn his country’s arsenal against itself when it was clear there were no further battles that Germany could win and the war was irretrievably lost. That Hitler’s generals and staff made plans, then refused to carry out that kind of hideous and disgusting measure was to their credit and was noted at the post-war trials of several. Pinning this country’s future on that kind of vain hope seems folly here, as a vast number of the great unwashed stupid, i.e. the DT supporters, would want those munitions dropped on their fellow countrymen and women here. Hopefully none of his staff, but again…hopefully. Without knowing how far the Russian rot goes — and it appears to extend definitely into the Legislative Branch as well as the Executive — it is impossible to judge.

One cannot make laws to force someone to do the right thing. That takes character and integrity, traits this regime has largely been free of. The pernicious racism and populist screeching aside, that DT clearly admires Hitler and has taken so many notes from him will continue to be problematic. We already see him making overt overtures on racial grounds and that his word is worthless, two other traits of Hitler. We see a lot of cloak and dagger shit that was also consistent with the inner machinations of the Third Reich. When he came to power, it struck me that this was an attempt at a continuation of the Third Reich, a modernizing reboot, perhaps. It doesn’t take away from the idea of a kakistocracy or the so-called banana republic regimes, which tend to try to enrich the head of government and family, but the destination marked on the map was clearly an attempt to resuscitate all of the worst things about the Nazi government. Nazi Germany was, in a vast number of respects, also a kakistocracy.

Here is the modern twist. Hitler did not especially believe in aerial firepower and less so concerning missiles and rockets, finding them too inaccurate and expensive, particularly since the V-2s did not manage to completely level London. The USA at the time treated the idea of a nuclear weapon with far more gravity and seriousness, consequently, while Hitler passed the time that he had resources to pursue it with the full vigor necessary to get them in the running. Had he elected to chase after that goal and was successful to the extent the USA was and had a substantial number of those bombs at his disposal, they would not have been held in reserve, which almost certainly means most of Europe would have been subject to bombardment and entire countries toxified for generations. While I don’t suspect DT would actively turn the missiles on the USA (not entirely sure such a thing would be possible, even if that was the intention), my suspicion is just the act of launching a single missile would provoke a similar effect. Worldwide.

If current events have taught us anything, if we emerge even remotely intact, we have to think about what we support and take a good hard honest look through the lens of science. Are our views supported scientifically and logically? If yes, then to the next step, if not, why not? As much as I hear the old saw about nobody being born prejudiced, I’ve seen it and experienced it enough times to know that shit ain’t so. If you’re going to be enlightened and dedicated to progress and self-improving, you need to question your own views and find the answer to the whys.

From there, examine then who we support, then what they support. If what we support is not what they support or there is a direct contradiction, our support should and must end, if we are not able to change them. As the man said, if you can’t change the people around you, change the people around you. Apply this to your family and friends as well, everyone around you, not just candidates. If you question your ideals and they are found worthy then they are worth the fight. If the ideals you hold are not capable of being tested, that itself is its own answer.

Sometimes it is more worthwhile to pick your battles and belay making a stand. If you decide to compromise, make sure you get something, some benefit, some concession from that trade or it’s worthless. Those are your principles, you decide how much they’re worth. Too many gave away everything for less than nothing, for actual lies and the reverse of the lip service DT was putting out. Don’t be like them. Believe your candidates when they tell you who they are and decide if that’s you also. If not, why would you ever expect that kind of person to represent you adequately, let alone capably? Above all, get involved. Passivity yields its own rewards, which is largely what got us into this mess now.
