IS URBANIZATION CURTAILING WETLANDS?

Probably yes, yes, and yes. With the ever growing cities and population, cities are ever expanding, thus gulping down the suburban lands and thereby turning cities into "MEGA CITIES." Well, this is inevitable as the population needs to move into comfort zones. Ever-expanding cities infused with rapid industrialization and infrastructure curated to meet the growing needs of the population are eventually gulping down the wetlands and turning them into a concrete junkyard of mega-structures.

Wetlands, barren lands, or green fields that are cultivatable that dot the suburban landscape are shrinking at an alarming rate; let’s compare them with the wetlands or forests that existed a few decades ago. With rapid urbanization affecting the green belt, today's forests too are shrinking at an alarming rate, and flora and fauna are the ardent sufferers. Global warming is being fueled and exacerbated by deforestation, thus leading to droughts, floods, and earthquakes. Water levels in many growing cities are depleting at an alarming rate, causing an imbalance in the ecosystem, and nothing much can be done to revive them.

Yesterday's green farmlands are today's concrete junkyards, with less greenery visible anywhere or everywhere. The progression of vehicular and industrial pollution exacerbates the perennial problem.

The ultimate question arises here: What can be done now?” If prevention is the best cure, we are far from the reality of prevention, where there is no cure but further destruction. This irreversible progression goes on and on, where “as man grows, the land shrinks."

Think about it! Comment, like, and follow if you wish to.
