Our team visited the Vintage Senior center located in East Liberty, Pittsburgh to explore the environments of senior care center. There are approximately 130 seniors and the center provides various activities, meals and daily classes. We interviewed several seniors and the manager of the center and got lots of interesting insights.

Eaten(left) comes to the center 3 days in a week to use the computer to send email and do Facebook to post, observe and react to other people. Bob(right) used to work as nurses assistant and told us amazing story how he ended up with his job. Lots of people we talked visit the center at least three times in a week.

We also visited the craft workshop and activity room and watched them play Bingo game. The seniors mentioned that they don’t want to just sit around, so they come to the center and socializing with other people. They also said they know it’s not good for their metal and physical health.

Overall, we were impressed by the positive vibe of the Vintage Senior center. Every seniors seem to consider the center as safe-home and enjoy the activities and utilities in the center and volunteers and the manager are devoted to this noble work. Tom, the head manager of the center talked about few challenges he experienced, which gave us more deeper understanding of the senior care center in general. As our next step, we will plan to revisit the center with some workshop with seniors.
