Proximity is Power
Proximity is power, an anecdote from Tony Robbins says about the best piece of advice he ever got. It broadly means that physical proximity is one of the strongest and best ways to get anywhere. People naturally tend to get along with those closest to them, even if thrown together by mere circumstance. Take as an example show ‘Friends’ for example — typical six friends in New York — brother and sister, brother’s best friends from college and high school, and immediate neighbour. There were only two real outsiders in that group, one if we exclude roommates.
What this means is that humans are almost unbelievably plastic and get along with almost anyone long as they’re nearby. What this also means is that the primary method by which we still seem to get anything done is by being close to those in the field who are already doing what we want to do.
Proximity is power.
