“Most people, regardless of their age, operate like small children.”
Actually you can expand that to include most of the Baby Boomers up to the present generation. There have always been what is commonly known as the Makers, Takers and Fakers. The Takers and Fakers make up most of our population now, partly because it takes fewer and fewer Makers to sustain the infrastructure that supports the Takers and Fakers. But it goes deeper than that. The parents of the Baby Boomers, the Greatest Generation, were the first generation to pay any attention to and GIVE CREDENCE TO the opinions of their children about society, culture, government functions and foreign relations. Every generation before the Greatest Generation just ignored or made fun of their children’s naive viewpoints and irrational ideas for giving us heaven on earth, knowing they would grow up and learn better when they were more mature. But when the Greatest Generation came home from WWII, they made babies who, for the first time in most families, went to college. A college education was the path to success to the Greatest Generation, and they held the opinions of college graduates in awe, simply because in their day the college graduates were the smartest people who always had the best jobs. They were raised in wartime, and the leaders who led the war effort were always college graduates. They didn’t realize that their children’s college curriculum was watered down, due both to Affirmative Action and to “qualify” their poorly-educated high school graduates so they could attend college. They did not realize their Baby Boomer offspring were, for these reasons, merely useful idiots indoctrinated by Communist or Socialist college professors, so when the Peace Movement and the Hippies touted Free Love and Bring Our Baby-Killer Troops Home From Vietnam, the Greatest Generation thought their own children knew better than they did because they had learned this in college, which to them was the height of wisdom and knowledge. Each generation since then has affirmed that absurd idea that their children, by definition the most ignorant part of the population, are actually wiser than they are.
THIS is why people act like children; they were “respected” as children no matter how stupid they were, so they remained children who hold childish values. Our country’s being led by children for two generations is why the country is what it is; when we are led by the dumbest segment of our society, the members of our society become dumber as a result.
No doubt you young college graduates, so full of yourselves and brimming with unearned self-esteem, will disagree. That will only prove my point; you could not have possibly graduated from college as it was three generations ago, or even two. You simply are not as educated and knowledgeable as your college-bound ancestors were.
