Ryan, check the corrupted link to your story. I had to add the dot between “medium” and “com” to get here.
Music in general has it’s roots in various genres. “Classical music” was the pop music of its day; Elvis Presley was influenced by early Memphis blues; the Beatles were influenced by Presley; and so on, ad infinitum. I agree that you limit your musical horizons if you confine your listening to a single type. I was raised by parents who listened to the original Bluegrass and early Country & Western, then I joined the British Invasion in the 60’s and did guitar for one of the many garage bands that sprung up like mushrooms. I listen to Oldies now, to 50’s Rock & Roll, 60’s British Rock & Roll, Jazz, Blues, you name it. But I am in my 60’s now and, just as my parents couldn’t stand that “noise” from the British groups, I can’t stand Rap, Hip-Hop or any of the new stuff. If I go black, it’s with Gladys Knight, Aretha Franklin and others of that era.
Always expand your horizons, in music and in life!
