The Easiest Way to Take a Cold Shower

By now you’ve probably heard that cold showers can have many health benefits, but taking a cold shower is a lot harder than it sounds.

I’ve been trying to take a cold shower regularly for almost three years, but I seem to fall out of the loop within a week. That was until I came up with a method that makes taking a cold shower easy. Seriously, I’ve been taking cold showers every day for a month now, and its getting easier and easier to do.

Here’s how I do it. Take your normal shower routine with warm/hot water. Once you’re done that, step towards the end of the tub and out of the water. Completely turn off the hot water. Wait a few seconds for the water to become ice cold. At this point I like to test the water with my arms and/or legs.

Once I’m ready, I start to bend down as if I’m going to touch my toes. You want to let the water hit your head first. Pause there for a few seconds and get your entire head wet before moving on. Now bend down a little bit more so that the water is hitting your neck and upper shoulders. This is where you want the water to hit the most since this where most of your body’s brown fat is located.

Usually I will hold this position and count up to a full minute. It might seem like a long time, but it goes by pretty fast. Just remember that you can reach out and turn the water off at any moment.

After that I’ll start to bend back so that I’m standing up straight, with the water hitting my chest. This is definitely the hardest part, but also the most rewarding.

Now I know taking a cold shower sounds crazy. Trust me, my girlfriend and friends think I’m insane, but the feeling you get after taking a cold shower is amazing. Your body will burn fat to keep warm and it feels great. If you don’t feel like this, you simply haven’t been in the cold water long enough. No worries, it will take a few tries to lengthen each shower. As long as you’ve tried it, you can improve it.

Not only does taking a cold shower help boost your mood, but you burn fat hours after you’ve taken the shower. Its a win-win.

If you can master the cold shower and want to challenge yourself, maybe think about taking a cold bath. I don’t personally have any advice for you there, but you might want to google the Wim Hoff method.

If you were able to get a cold shower streak going or maybe have your own methods, I’d love to hear about it!
