BGB: First Line of Defence

One:

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) is a disciplined and valiant uniformed force, known as ‘The Vigilant Sentinels of the National Frontier’. It is the oldest uniformed force of Bangladesh.

Two:

It was known as Ramgarh Local Battalion under the command of the East India Company during the British era.

Three:

Major General Shafeenul Islam is the current Director General of Border Guard Bangladesh. After joining as the DG, he shaped BGB as a three-dimensional force.

Four:

During the Liberation War, nearly nine thousand of the East Pakistan Rifles members turned against the Pakistan Army.

Five:

Border Guard Bangladesh’s key responsibilities:
Defend 4,427 kilometres border of the country.
Conduct anti-smuggling operations.
investigate cross border crimes.
Maintenance of internal law & order when required.
Relief and rehabilitation work when required.
