Chiefs of the two forces met in a conference in New Delhi in September and discussed ways to enhance joint efforts. BGB director general major general Shafeenul Islam led a 14 member Bangladesh delegation to New Delhi for the conference.

Major general Shafeenul Islam is confident that his force will bring down smuggling of narcotics, gold, and weapons to a minimum level within a short time.

As the incidents of deaths and injuries have come down already, major general Shafeen thanked BSF for utmost tolerance and minimum enforcement and said more efforts should be given to bring the number to zero. He also assured his counterpart that BGB will not allow any criminal or terrorist group to use Bangladesh’s land against any other country.

After the successful conference, both forces planned to hold the 48th biannual BGB-BSF DG-level meeting in Dhaka next year.

Major General Shafeenul Islam took office of the Director General of Border Guard Bangladesh in March this year. He is a Masters in Defence Studies from the National University, Bangladesh. Before that he had completed graduation from the Defence Services Command and Staff College, Mirpur. He has taken several effective initiatives right after taking charge of the Border Guard Bangladesh.
