I call these Personal Mobility Devices! Agree we should and will see the rise of them: nimble, fuel and space efficient. What holds them back is fear for personal safety. NHTSA just released stats noting that US fatality for all traffic collisions was up 7.8% last year! My guess is that distracted driving from smart phones and increased VMTs from low fuel prices were the reason. I’d like to see more dedicated bike lanes suitable also for low-speed “personal mobility devices” (max speed 30k?)
