Introduction
My name is Rachel Stoddard, and I am a junior at Coventry High School, a district I’ve know my whole life. I’m an average A, B kind of student, and I don’t do much. But one thing I know a little about, is reading. I like to think of myself as a pretty avid reader. I’ll admit, I like books, and I tend to read in my spare time. Now I’m not always reading, and sometimes it may be a week or two before I pick up a book, but all in all I do enjoy reading, and it’s something I do at least once or twice a week. And as a reader, I know how important genre is. Everyone has a genre they enjoy above all. This is what differentiates them from other readers. I personally, like adventure and gothic novels, and will dabble in historical fiction. It all depends on the person you are, that’s why some people don’t like reading, too many genres don’t appeal to them, or they don’t find the one genre that does. Reading is important as a whole, it’s something we need to do everyday, it’s necessary for everyday life.
Reading is important, that much is obvious. Where would we be today without the cultural influence of many great novels. We’d be less developed. Sure we may still function as a society, but we’d be missing out on so much. Reading, and books for that matter, are so crucial, so integral to society that without them we’d be vastly different. Just think of how many of your favorite movies were based on books, or how many directors were influenced by the genre. Reading is crucial to us as a whole, and while I admit, sometimes, it’s just not a good day to read, but every once in a while, everyone should to sit down and read a book, or a magazine or even news article sometime, and read.
