You Never Changed

When you said, “I hope we never change,” I never knew
After all these years, you’d still be sitting there
Sitting in the exact same chair, the one you spoke from then
There you are, after all these years
…thinking the same thoughts
…drinking the same drinks
…smoking the same smokes

Perhaps I should commend your reliability
But my eyes just water at your inability

For the truth is, you’re not unchanged
Your eyes are darkening alongside despair
The window isn’t very far, but you’ll have to leave that chair
