My town is on the path of totality. We are expecting between 100k and 300k visitors to our town of just over 100k (yes really, they have no idea how many people. just, a butt-load). It was supposed to be the first day of university classes, they’ve all been cancelled. My kid has permission to walk himself home from school that day because I’m not sure I’d make it there by 6pm, depending on traffic, to pick him up. He told me he was sad that he doesn’t get to experience it with me. I thought that was sweet, and kind of cool that he gets how significant it is.

The eclipse is primary motivation to get my airbnb ready. Places like mine are going for $250+ per night. There are literally no hotel rooms left in a 1 hour radius. We’re at a point where people are listing their backyards for campsites.

A lot of people are taking the day off. I’m going to work, and we’re having a viewing party. I picked up free glasses from our convention and visitors bureau and we’re going to have space-themed snacks and stuff. I have a pinterest board for it, because I’m a dork.
