My Immigrant Mother’s Difficult Job Search

Accents being problematic or embarrassing is SO ILLOGICAL. Having employees who can speak a second/third/sign language can only come in handy and the culture should encourage this. In my office, one of the managers would consider it a definite plus if an employee could speak another language, in the hopes that a client would find it useful.

That being said, I’m a total hypocrite. I’m so embarrassed about my French that I can’t bring myself to practice it. And I’m not great at understanding accents either (I turn subtitles on when watching Sherlock!)
