Genuine curiosity, how are cubicles difficult to maintain?

I only know what they tell me (please don’t take away my cube!) but apparently… cubicle footprints tend to be larger and take more floorspace, while occupant management is costly since they have to maintain a cubicle for every employee vs a touch down station where they can overbook us like airline passengers.

Also user-dedicated infrastructure like land-line phones can be harder to administrate — these days they’d prefer to just give us a cell phone (which is fun because often large buildings doesn’t have good cell reception throughout). Cleaning is easier when the station needs to be vacated every night.
