Skyway Bridge Light Display Supports Events and Causes
The Sunshine Skyway Bridge light display has six permanent themes that rotate on a weekly basis and themes for approved events and causes along the 1.7-mile main span and high approach. FDOT will support a group’s theme if there is broad public support and if the County Commissions from Manatee, Pinellas and Hillsborough pass supportive resolutions at least 30 days in advance to the date. During the first week in September, the Skyway Bridge was illuminated to raise awareness for two causes.
September 1, 2022
The color purple represented International Drug Overdose Awareness Day.
September 2–5, 2022
The color teal represented support for ovarian cancer.
Past themes include: Skyway 10K, NEDA-National Eating Disorders Association, National Donate Life Month, Paint the Town Blue, TIFF — To Inform Families First. Red Ribbon Week, and LGS-Lennox Gastaut Syndrome (LGS) Foundation and St. Pete Pride Week.
