Rully and Kanda (even his dog smiles)

I’ll never forget the day that Rully came in to interview with us at Roam, Bali. Erma and I had been through countless live interviews, over 200 digital applications…

You see… Roam’s community manager, is like the cheese in the mac and cheese, or in Bali, the Nasi in the Nasi Goreng. It matters, and we had to find the right fit.

It seemed like he walked in straight out of a Kinfolk.com story, soulful — smiling eyes, a curious spirit with a side of cheeky, unapologetic humour… he was Rully, and he was the one.

A month ago, Rully…

No, not the 1941 musical film directed by Walter Lang.

This one is full. And features a small eclipse.

Unfortunately, North America is not in the viewing zone for the eclipse, but if you’re roaming around Eastern Africa, Asia or Australia, LOOK UP around 2:54 pm EDT, or 1854 GMT.

September 16th marks the night of the harvest moon. This moon falls around the time farmers in the Northern Hemisphere are harvesting their crops so farmers can work late into the night. Hence, harvest moon. …

How do you work and live remotely, full time? How much does it cost per month? How do you manage timezone differences?

No one better to ask about Roaming the globe, than Roamer’s themselves…

Meet David, a one of a kind human that instantly make you feel all fuzzy and smiley…

I remember the first time I met David in the co-working space, he was the only other person who started his work day with the roosters — (your new alarm clock in Bali). He’s soft spoken and properly polite — the way your mom said that boys should be…

Tessie joined us in Bali 2 weeks ago and she has been exploring the culture of the island from the moment the plane touched down. An inspiration to our community, she lights up every room with her energy and compassion.

Tessie at a traditional juice making class on our rooftop in UBUD, Bali.

Here with us for 2 months, she’s retired from over 15 years in corporate insurance and committed this year to exploring life in social service. Tessie heads to Jakarta in October to volunteer with a foundation that supports literacy for children (request to remain anonymous) and we are lucky to have her!

We asked Tessie what her favourite adventure has…

Britanny joined us in May for her second trip to Bali. (She’s visited over 10 countries around the world!)

We love Britanny’s courageous and adventurous spirit! She approaches life with a curious wanderlust, while at the same time, very much values her professional development, prioritizing her career responsibilities and choices — that’s what brought her to Roam and we’re so glad Britanny found us.

The kind of guy you want at the dinner table, not just because of his charisma, wit and bright blue eyes…

With over 50 countries under his belt — globe trotting is nothing new for Matt. Read about some of his adventures in the “Getting Lost Series” with the NY times. Matt travelled to 8 different cities in 8 different countries — with nothing but the clothes on his back (and in his back back) — to explore and discover these new places in the most authentic way… pretty badass.

‘Millennials’ take heed… that means, no google maps or ‘travel…

Curious, energetic, full of compassion and insight — Vijay is the kind of guy you want at every campfire.

Vijay is currently Roaming the western hemisphere in search of a place to lay down some roots, for now at least…

Why did Vijay choose Roam, Bali? It wasn’t easy to connect with people while travelling, I was moving around a lot. I wanted to have a explore what it meant to have community abroad that wasn’t all centred around drinking and partying, I wanted to meet likeminded people.

Picnic in the park, Sunday at Sayan community market.

A founding member, we first met Muriel in February, she was in Bali for the “Coworking Unconference” held in UBUD, it was also when we first opened our doors…

Recently, Muriel returned to Bali, with her daughter, Lilou — she is our first returning Roamer and we are so happy to have her with us for the next 2 months.
