Miranda Maverick was born on the 1st of July 1997 in Tunas, Missouri, USA. She started training Brazilian jiu-jitsu (BJJ) when she was 16, after watching Ronda Rousey’s first UFC fight and being encouraged by her father to take up martial arts. Currently a purple belt in BJJ, Maverick has won several events in the discipline, including North American Grappling Association (NAGA), American Grappling Federation (AGF), FUJI BJJ, and Submission Challenge tournaments.

After wrestling for the men’s varsity team at Buffalo High School, Maverick started studying a double major in psychology and sociology at Drury University in Springfield, Missouri, and joined the university’s wrestling team. However, she became more focused on MMA from age 18, training at Springfield Fight Club where she met her coaches Nathan Stamburski, Brett Welcome, and Gabe Wouk. She quickly went on to begin competing as an amateur.
