we all turn in to stone (I fell among the gods)

picture I took at the Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs, CO (a spot I hike regularly)

I fell among the gods
a seed in their garden
I stood against the odds
fighting from the margins
man of no means nor mods
begging for their pardon
I fell among the gods
heart began to harden

we all turn in to stone
in pieces over time
relinquish flesh and bone
made that way by design
we turn with tide and tone
through life’s rhythms and rhyme
to mark our last path home
six feet above the pine

I fell among the gods
a seed in their garden
I stood against the odds
fighting from the margins
man of no means nor mods
begging for their pardon
I fell among the gods
heart began to harden

each step gets more weighted
and is taken alone
we have long been slated
to make this role our own
to be devastated
and broken by the throne
it is how we’re fated
we all turn in to stone

I fell among the gods
a seed in their garden
I stood against the odds
fighting from the margins
man of no means nor mods
begging for their pardon
I fell among the gods
heart began to harden

we all turn in to stone
in pieces over time
to mark our last path home
six feet above the pine
