James, Scandinavia is not a monolith. Norway has immense oil and herring wealth. The Finns’ nickname for them is the Herring Saudis. The Swedes have problems of their own and the Finns are constantly looking East for signs of tank exhaust. More to the point, they have the same post-industrial problems that the rest of the west has. It’s easier for them to a point because their populations are smaller.

And what Umair wrote isn’t even close to accurate enough to be absolutely true even up to a point. Segregation wasn’t an economic benefit to the US as as international competitor. There is no causal link from desegregation to wage stagnation. It’s all a red…herring.
