Vietnam is certainly relevant.

Had the North not been armed then what could Ho Chi Minh have done against the Japanese? The French? And then against the Americans?

Did they not have the right to defend themselves?

They needed to be armed to do that.

Or would have preferred Vietnam remain oppressed?
