It would make more sense to understand ITIL’s definition of a standard change as a typical example of achieving the oft-forgotten goal of change management according to ITIL — to speed up the flow of changes — rather than to understand it in a literal, strict constructionist, inflexible, non-agile way. Thus, Jez Humble, who is at the origin of trying to reconcile continual delivery with ITIL, has an excellent understanding of the spirit of what ITIL has been trying to recommend, but is ignored by many practitioners, who think that change management is ONLY about risk and control.
