This is a good, thoughtful article; it is worth asking if the clubby-friendship atmosphere of Washington that the McCain funeral mourns was a good thing, or why it existed at all. I suspect that the elites were bound togehter more by mutual love of free-spending and free-trade globalism rather than by an belief in American exceptionalism as the author suggests. Still, very worth the read.
