Trump’s Tipping Point Tweet

Trump’s tweet today beings to mind the childhood game of finding “what’s wrong with this picture.” The tweet criticized Sessions for prosecuting 2 Republican congressmen before the mid-terms. The issues it raises are legion.
- Of course, if Trump weren’t such a weak leader, he would simply fire Sessions. He could even do it by tweet as he just did for his White House Counsel since he is so afraid of any personal conflict, he is scared to fire anyone in person (except when it is staged for TV). So, we have a situation where the President undercuts his own AG but is afraid to fire him. This is a President who won at least partially because people thought he was a strong, decisive business person, unafraid of firing people he felt were not performing to his standards.
- There is his usual ignorance showing since he states that these prosecutions arise from Obama-led investigations, when the (alleged) inside trader committed his crime right at Trump’s White House.
- Trump clearly has become a politician as he sees this issue entirely in terms of how it effects his party. (Again, is this what the Trump voters expected?)
- Even worse, the implication is that he wanted people to vote for these 2 people unaware of the serious evidence against them. Wow! (His supporters might say that he would be fine with justice being done after the election. This is debatable, of course.)
- These 2 Congressmen join the ranks of over 10 Trump ’16 supporters to plead guilty, be convicted or be charged with pretty compelling evidence. Drain what? Nary any criticism or even recognition that his justice department charging them means that we should let the system progress.
So, this tweet suggests several questions that any of us can ask any Trump supporter we know (particularly those who were fine with Comey’s publicizing charges against Hillary or even chanted “lock her up”).
And can elected Republicans really play their 3 monkey act when asked about this? How can they expect Senators to vote on a Supreme Court Justice nominated by this President?
