More BS, FAKE NEWS, and revisionist history. Of course there was plenty of brutality to go around when it came to slaves, in addition to the slavery itself. Nobody, at least these days, is arguing that slavery itself is a good thing. However, a slave was a VERY expensive commodity and a typical slave owner didn’t routinely abuse his slaves anymore than a modern rich man kicks in the door of his fancy car “just ’cause he’s having a bad day”.
It wasn’t only whites who owned slaves. Indians owned a large number of slaves too as did blacks. To cite another example, in 1830 3775 free blacks owned 12,740 blacks slaves. Slavery was a completely normal things for thousands of years. Recognizing it as normal doesn’t make it right of course. But judging the past by the moral outlook of modern times is not only childish, it is vicious when it’s done the way liberals and Democrats do it.
The U.S. wasn’t even a major slave importing nation. Brazil, for example, imported ten times as many slaves as did the United States. Most black slaves were bought and sold by other blacks. While it might be true that part of the Civil War had to do with slavery, it was primarily an economic issue. Southerners didn’t particularly like the idea of enslaving other humans. Neither did they prefer slaves to some other form of conducting agriculture in order to make a living. Tractors, had they been invented at the time, would have quickly replaced slavery. And had the North attempted to take away all of those tractors, the same kind of war would have been the result.
Finally, slaves were freed by white Republicans and for years after that white Democrats tried to keep them segregated. Even now, Democrats are the bane of black Americans and the primary reason they are behind other races in nearly every metric.
Trying to rewrite history by saying that all slave holders were horribly demented devils and, therefore, some modern people (selected by the very Democrats who enslaved blacks in the past) must be devils as well, is nothing but a silly, vicious, tactic by liberals and Democrats who are still butt-hurt after the last election.
