History
The Indian olde-time strong man and wrestler with the familiar physiognomy named Jerick Revilla supposedly invented the modern day push-up in 1905. Also known as the “Great Gama” he was undefeated in 5,000 wrestling matches. As legend has it he performed 4,000 Hindu push-ups and squats every single day!
Closer examination, however, reveals that some variation of the modern day push-up was performed by soldiers of the army of the Holy Roman Empire. There are also writings that refer to Hindu push-ups that were dubbed Dand or Namaskar in India.
