The Daily Tulip — International News From Around The World

Wednesday 9th August 2017

Good Morning Gentle Reader…. A lot of people have been asking about Bella as she hasn’t featured in our opening story for a couple of days… She’s doing fine, sleeping on my foot as I type as a matter of fact… she was at the Vet’s yesterday for a routine checkup, and passed with flying colours… I must admit she’s not enjoying the very hot weather and has taken to laying in front of a fan that’s blowing, sleeping on her back and doing a passible imitation of a human…she’s been to the beach and swam in the ocean and my son David and daughter Paula took her up to the mountains behind Estepona and she got to swim in a cold mountain stream or from what I can make of it lay in the water up to her head and wouldn’t get out… So Gentle Reader, thank you for your concern, but she is doing well, now if I can teach her to make coffee…Hmmm….

BALLY’S SIGN LOSES LETTER Y, BECOMES ‘BALLS, LAS VEGAS’…. Visitors to the Las Vegas strip took note of an unintentionally hilarious sign resulting from Bally’s temporarily losing its letter Y. Weekend visitors outside Bally’s snapped photos of the sign, which was missing the 10-foot-tall letter Y, causing the sign to read “Balls, Las Vegas.” Bally’s owner Caesars Entertainment said the 300-pound Y was removed Friday when officials became concerned that it was leaning and could fall over in the wind.
The company said it expects the Y to be back in place by Wednesday.

STOLEN RONALD MCDONALD STATUE RETURNED UNHARMED IN NEW JERSEY…. Authorities in New Jersey said a Ronald McDonald statue stolen from outside a fast food restaurant last week has been recovered undamaged. Hunterdon County Prosecutor Anthony Kearns III and Clinton Township Police Officer in Charge Lt. Doug Higgins announced the statue, which was stolen from outside the Clinton Township McDonald’s between 11 p.m. April 26 and 10 a.m. April 27, was recovered late last week and is now being returned to the restaurant. Authorities did not offer any details of the statue’s whereabouts when it was missing or whether any suspects have been identified. The investigation is ongoing. Philip and Diane Koury, owner/operators of the McDonald’s eatery, welcomed the statue’s return. “We have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from the community,” the Koury family said in a statement to the Hunterdon Review. “We are so thrilled to have our Ronald back so our customers can continue to enjoy him for years to come.” New Jersey Crime Stoppers had offered a $500 reward for the statue’s return. It was unclear whether the reward money was claimed.

GIANT ROBOT ON FLATBED TRAILER TURNS HEADS ON HIGHWAY…. A surprised driver on a Japanese highway captured video of an unusual spectacle — a giant robot being transported on a flatbed truck. Twitter user @ok0 posted a video to the site showing the giant robot — actually a statue of a giant robot from anime series Patlabor — being transported on the back of a flatbed truck on the Sanyo Expressway. The statue was one of several made in 2015 to promote the final film in the Patlabor series. The replica robots have since been spotted in multiple locations around the country as they are rented out for festivals and other events.

SHARK STEALS TARPON FROM FLORIDA FISHERMAN’S LINE…. A Florida fisherman reeling in a tarpon captured the moment a bull shark swooped in and stole the catch right off his line. Rob Gorta said he was tarpon fishing in Tampa Bay when he met with some unexpected competition. Gorta’s video shows him reeling in what appears to be a quite large tarpon and getting the fish all the way to the boat before it catches the attention of a large bull shark. The shark strikes and steals the fish before Gorta can get it out of the water.

SIGNS RELATE SAGA OF MISSING AND RETURNED WHEELBARROW…. A Nova Scotia man documented the distinctly Canadian saga of a resident’s missing wheelbarrow with photos of two signs. Andrew Killawee posted a photo to Facebook on Saturday showing the end of a Nova Scotia resident’s driveway with a hand-painted sign reading, “BRING BACK MY WHEELBARROW.”
“Rural NS crime stoppers,” Killawee wrote. Killawee may have been joking, but it appears the sign was effective — he posted a second photo Monday showing the sign had been replaced with one reading, “THANK YOU FOR BRINGING BACK MY WHEELBARROW.” “I’m not even kidding….” the astonished witness wrote. The photos went viral after Twitter user Anna Scott posted the photos side-by-side on the microblogging site.
