Good Morning Gentle Reader…. A warm wind greets Bella and I as we leave the house this morning for our early morning walk and a sliver of a moon but still enough light to illuminate the way for us, as we wander through the streets and alleyways of Estepona…, past the house where the first doctor lived, down the street where they recently discovered the tombs of early Muslim settlers, up the hill to the church that was originally a mosque, down the hill to the street which was originally the river, and still is when it rains hard! Then back home to the rich Colombian coffee that my Sister in Law and her Husband brought for me.. what a way to start your day.. and all with the twinkling stars overhead…

TAIWAN POLICE AGENCY RECRUITS FLEET OF MONTH-OLD PUPPIES…. A new batch of law enforcers are joining Taiwan’s police force in the form of a litter of adorable newborn puppies. Taiwan’s National Police Agency on June 8 shared photos of the six puppies — named Lucky Star, Schumann, Feida, Brother, AJ and Full Moon — that will be put through training in hopes of becoming part of the country’s K-9 Unit. The puppies, each only a month old, posed alongside an officer, on top of a police car and next to the sash they will wear if chosen to join the force. Once their training is complete the puppies will join the NPA’s Anti Bomb and Drug unit in Taipei where their mother worked.

CAT REPEATEDLY TRIES TO INTIMIDATE LION AT TEXAS SANCTUARY…. A Texas man filmed a brave house cat’s attempt to “challenge” a much larger animal — a lion at an animal sanctuary. Derek Krahn posted a video to YouTube on Wednesday showing Baggy the cat’s attempt to intimidate Noey the lion through the bars of the larger animal’s cage at the Center for Animal Research and Education in Bridgeport. “Oh my gosh,” Krahn says in the video, “Baggy, you will lose.” Baggy takes multiple runs toward Noey while striking aggressive poses, but fails to intimidate the lion. “Baggy, abort!” an amused Krahn yells. “There’s nothing to be gained, Baggy!”
The much smaller cat eventually appears satisfied and leaves the lion alone. “Baggy the housemeow has always been a tough little cookie, but I never thought she was this degree of crazy. All is well, everything settled, and her & Noey (the lion) are back on speaking terms,” Krahn wrote.

CYCLISTS RACE THROUGH LONDON ON PENNY FARTHING BIKES…. Enthusiasts of vintage cycling gathered in London for an unusual race that saw the competitors keeping their balance on penny farthing bicycles. The event, near St. Paul’s Cathedral in London, featured dozens of riders on the high-wheeled bikes racing through a closed circuit before thousands of spectators. The event featured both amateur and professional racers on penny farthing bikes, old style bicycles with one large wheel and a smaller wheel in back.

TEXAS TEA SHOP ENGAGED IN SIGN WAR WITH LOCAL WENDY’S…. Two businesses on a north Texas street sparked a viral feud after posting clever messages to each other on their street-side marquees. The sign war began when Lubbock business Pure Water Ice and Tea Company shared a message on its marquee offering free drinks for Texas Tech head football coach Kliff Kingsbury, and a nearby Wendy’s restaurant attempted to trump their proposition. “So, I went ahead and just replied ‘Hey Kliff, hungry and thirsty? We got you.’ and they didn’t like it,” Wendy’s general manager Santos Perez told KCBD. Pure Water assistant manager Kyler Smith fired back by telling the Wendy’s location their sign “looked familiar,” which led Perez to respond with one of the company’s slogans.
“Something else that’s familiar is our never frozen, fresh beef,” Wendy’s next marquee read. Smith responded by changing his marquee to acknowledge the feud he had been hoping to bait Wendy’s into for some time. “You want beef Wendys? Youve got it!” Pure Water’s sign read. The two managers never met in person to discuss their war of words, communicating only through the clever messages. “We haven’t talked at all, just through the signs,” Perez said. Smith said his team gathers together to carefully craft each public jab, while Perez said his crew eagerly awaits each new response. “The crew, they love it,” Perez said. “They’ll ask, ‘What are you going to put now?’ I don’t know, I’ll figure something out.” In the midst of the light-hearted battle of wits, both businesses have dedicated half of their two-sided marquees to the comical feud and reserved the other side for sharing more traditional messages.
Both managers said the war will likely wage on — either until one side runs out of ideas or Kingsbury crowns a winner. “Hey Kliff man, come see us, we’re waiting on you!” Perez said.

NEEDY ORANGUTAN GRABS TOURIST’S HAND, REFUSES TO LET GO…. A tourist walking through an Indonesian jungle was briefly detained by an orangutan that grabbed her hand and refused to let go. A video recorded last month in Indonesia’s Bukit Lawang jungle shows the flustered woman trying to break the female orangutan’s grip on her hand without success. The woman, whose boyfriend filmed the encounter, was detained by the primate for several minutes before a guide was able to draw the orangutan’s attention with some fruit. “During our trip to Bukit Lawang jungle in Indonesia, a female Orangutan grabbed my girlfriend for 5 minutes and the guides didn’t know what to do,” the filmer wrote online.
